the basics

what is ditchd?

a home screen for android that makes you earn your screen time. fun apps get a few free minutes a day, then cost dinos, which you earn with push-ups, focus, the gym, a walk and other real effort. every week, your phone goes a little further back in time.

is this a launcher? what's a launcher?

yes. a launcher draws your home screen, the screen you see when you unlock your phone. android lets you swap it, and ditchd is one. your apps, photos and messages stay exactly as they are.

do i have to replace my home screen?

it works best as your home screen, but setup lets you choose.

which phones does it work on?

android 8 or newer, from any maker. if yours behaves oddly, email hello@ditchd.app.

is there an iphone version?

no. apple doesn't let apps replace the home screen, which is what makes ditchd work.

where do i get it?

ditchd is coming soon to google play, for android 8 and newer. the computer app is on the download page.

on google play, free for 14 days, no card needed. the computer app is on the download page.

what's free and what costs dinos

what's free?

messaging, browsing, calls, maps, banking, the camera and your tools. and every fun app gets free minutes a day before it costs anything.

what costs dinos?

social media, short video, video, games, news, shopping, takeaways and ai chat, once their free minutes are up. the more you use in a day, the dearer it gets. instagram in a browser costs the same as the app.

what are dinos?

screen time you've earned, shaped like a small dinosaur. a minute of push-ups, focus or meditating earns a dino, and so do 100 steps. a dino buys a minute of a fun app. you can't buy them with money.

what counts as effort?

exercise your phone's camera counts (push-ups, squats, sit-ups, jumping jacks, arm raises, planks and wall sits), focus sessions, meditating, the gym, learning apps, the evening journal, time away from your phone, getting up for your alarm and walking. good habits and being in bed on time earn a few too. see every rate.

i can't walk or exercise. is ditchd for me?

yes. pick walking, low-impact, wheelchair or no movement. every physical task has another option, arm raises work sitting down, and focus, meditating, the journal, learning apps and time away earn without moving at all.

does my watch count?

yes. fitbit, garmin, samsung health, a pixel watch and the rest. go out with just your watch and the dinos are waiting when you get home.

can't i just fake it?

you could try. it should be more work than just doing it.

do i lose time i've bought?

bought time only counts while the app is on screen, and lasts until midnight. it doesn't carry over to tomorrow.

what are meteors?

what you earn for keeping promises, like the gym three times a week. spend them on a free month or year of ditchd, stickers, a tee, or a digby plushie in the post.

who's digby?

ditchd's dino. he sits on the coin on your home screen, looks after your dinos and guards the off switches. try one. digby will know.

how strict it gets

what does going back in time mean?

it's how strict ditchd is. you start in 2026. every week your free minutes shrink, a pause and then a puzzle get added, and each kind of app goes the year before it was invented: ai chat in 2021, short video in 2012, social media in 2002. see the timeline.

do i have to go back to 10,000 bc?

no. you choose where to stop, anywhere from 2015 back to 10,000 bc, and how fast.

does it cover ai chat?

yes. chatgpt, claude, gemini and the rest get their own free minutes, then dinos. from 2021 they're gone.

can i set my own limits?

yes. give any app, kind of app or website a daily limit: the most you can use it in a day. once you hit it, it's closed until tomorrow, even with dinos. lowering a daily limit starts now. raising one waits, like anything that makes ditchd easier.

what's hard mode?

no free minutes at all: every fun minute costs dinos from day one. switching to it is instant. leaving it waits.

what if i need to loosen something?

you always can. easier changes wait at least a day, then you confirm them within 12 hours. stricter ones happen straight away.

getting round it

i always get round blockers. why is this different?

so did we. blocked apps are covered as they open. the off switches are guarded. uninstalling and deleting your account wait 7 days. there's no sign-out button, the clock can't be fooled, and switching ditchd off on purpose costs you. it's built to be near-impossible to bypass.

i found a way round. now what?

tell us privately at hello@ditchd.app, or use "found a way round?" in ditchd's settings. we'll close it.

can i uninstall it?

yes. with the uninstall guard on, you ask in ditchd and wait 7 days. with no trial or plan, it's immediate.

what if i need my phone in an emergency?

emergency calls and sos, the phone app, incoming calls, crash and fall detection and your emergency info are never blocked. you can also keep apps like banking or maps always open.

is ditchd a medical treatment?

no. it's a self-control and productivity tool, not a medical device or a treatment for anything. if your phone use really worries you, talk to someone you trust, or your doctor.

privacy

does the camera record me?

no. frames are checked on the phone and thrown away at once. only the result ("20 push-ups, 07:12") is kept.

what do you know about how i use my phone?

very little. your app use, notifications and screen stay on your phone. your account carries your rules, dinos, journal and promises between devices, plus a few weekly totals, never which apps. the privacy policy lists everything.

do i need an account?

yes. a new phone gets everything back. sign in with google or an emailed link. there's no signing out, and deleting your account waits 7 days.

do you show ads or sell data?

never. no ads, no data sold, no ad trackers.

pricing

how much does it cost?

14 days free with no card, then £4.99 a month or £49.99 a year. pricing.

what happens when my trial ends?

nothing is charged. ditchd takes a break: nothing's blocked, and everything you set up waits for you.

what if i cancel later?

ditchd keeps working to the end of what you've paid for, then 7 more days, then takes a break.

how do i cancel?

any time, in the play store: profile → payments and subscriptions → subscriptions → ditchd → cancel.

computers

does it work on my computer?

yes, on linux and windows, with the same rules and the same dinos as your phone, at no extra cost. download it.

are free minutes per device?

no. free minutes and daily limits are shared across your phone and computer: 20 minutes of social on your computer is 20 fewer on your phone.

does time away count while i'm on my computer?

no, if ditchd is on your computer too. time spent at it doesn't count as time away. ditchd only knows about devices it's on.
